About Author

Mirabel Lavelle

I am a young grandma, a teacher, and the eldest daughter of a typical Maltese family. I have always been very enthusiastic about storytelling, writing and books. I especially love sharing folktales, fairy tales and legends.
It’s not too much of a leap from a love of storytelling into writing. But there is a particular reason that gave me the momentum to make it happen. Two of my grandchildren have Food Allergies and wherever we go we carry a backpack with autoinjectors and medicines.
I wanted to write an adventure story that raises awareness to food allergy safety especially at social events that centre around food. Hence, Zeb, Jet and the Ice-Cream Calamity. An adventure featuring a heroic fox cub and playful puppy. The book comes with a song and sheet music as well as a variety of differentiated tasks that encourage children to find out more about allergies and food allergy safety.
I have devised a series of workshops based on the book and the theme of allergy safety. I deliver these in primary schools and at local venues such as libraries.
I also deliver creative writing sessions for adults at venues such as libraries and universities.
Please do get in touch with any questions you may have so we can have an initial, complimentary chat.
I look forward to working with you.

Crafting stories: where managing food allergies matters.
Children who don’t have allergies learn how to keep friends with food allergies safe.
Zeb and Jet empower children and families to understand food allergy safety and to play and party inclusively.

Creative Writing Sessions

Creative Writing Workshops for Universities, Libraries and Group Venues

I deliver Creative Writing presentations and workshops which are aimed to support attendees in developing confidence, skills, and knowledge around getting published.
My work with universities and libraries has included real time development and editing of articles, short stories, and a wide range of writing which led the attendees to seeing their work published nationally as well as internationally, within a month from the sessions.

One to One Writing Mentoring
Writing can be quite a lonely pursuit at times. As a published author and university lecturer with years of writing and lecturing experience, I create personalised writing sessions for each writer, based around their specific needs. As I continue to support a student, I supply regular constructive feedback, which together with the student’s input, informs elements of the next session.
